I am setting my 90 gallon up and want to get the right amount of flow in the tank. For the sump I Have a mag drive 950. I am guessing the Max flow into the tank will be about 600 -700. I have a 1-1/2" bulk head to handle that.

The Power heads in the tank i am now trying to figure out. I am thinking about maxi jets, everyone seems to like them. I was thinking that 3 would be best to get good flow and make no dead spots. What should I get?
- Model 1200 (295 gph)
- Model 900 (230 gph)
- Model 600 (160 gph)

I would think I would want 3 of the 295 gph, but that would mean in my 90 gallon tank i would have 1485gph in my tank for flow. That means if I am doing this right, I would have 16.5 times the turn over rate of water in my tank? Is this right and is this to much, or what I want?

From what I have heard, you cannot have too much flow if you are doing corals, but the target is about 25x to 30x turnover. If you are doing FO then 10x-15x should be sufficient.

As far as the powerheads, Maxijet 1200's are very reliable and nice and small and relativley cheap. Seio's are also quite popular, as they have much higher output, but spread out in a wider dispersion, however, the Seio's are much larger and more expensive. Tunze's are supposed to be the ultimate, but they are rippin' expensive.

In my 65gallon I'm using a mag9.5 return (like you) and 2 MJ1200's.... as well as two SEIO1100's doing 1100 gph each, I think I need more flow in there.

My new 90gallon tank I'm diong some sort of high output return pump... maybe a genx or something. Perhaps a closed loop but.... I am doing at least 2 mj1200's with their mods. www.mjmods.com you can modify your MJ's to do 2000gph. Cheaper than a seio and more relaible. I hate my seios. People say tunze aren't worth it after seeing the MJ next to the $350 tunze.
