Awesome. It's been months since I posted that and now I must confess that I do have a few sprigs of BBA growing here and there in the tank...mainly on the driftwood. Driftwood unfortunately rots and BBA loves to grow on it. Luckily it hasn't gone hog-wild and isn't really noticable unless you look closely at the wood. It is tolorable, however, since the amount of algae is so minute. The glass, on the other hand, stays clear. I am still running the same filtration on this tank and doing weekly 50% water changes w/ gravel vac. Nitrates remain @ around 5ppm. Stocking levels are relatively low...just a breeding pair of Salvini cichlids (3.5" female / 5" male). I use the AC 500/110 mainly as a mechanical filter(stuffed with sponges) and my HOT magnum 250 is a biofilter and is left alone for the most part. I clean the AC about once per month and it stays surprisingly clean on it's own. Even after a month, very little 'gunk' builds up in the filter. There are no live plants in this tank.
