I bought, the other day, what the LFS said was an Atlantic Flower Rock Anemome. I've looked online but havent been able to find anything about it. It is about the size of a soft ball, purple with white lines on it, and short pointed tentacles. I put it in the tank, after acclimation and then placed it in a crevice of live rock where it rooted itself and was fine (eating brine shrimp, etc). Last night, I noticed that it had uprooted and was wandering around the tank. I put it back in place 3 or 4 times, but to no avail. Now...it just constantly wanders the tank, and is not finding a suitable spot to root itself. Any ideas about what I can to make it stay in one spot? Or, should I just let it wander until it finds a home? It's not really bothering anything...just annoying my Green Starburst Corals. If anyone knows where I can find some online info on it, please let me know. Thanks guys...and ladies.

you might want to feed it and make sure it's in an area with a good but not direct current flow. They IME tend to filter feed a lot more than some of the other common anemonies. Try giving it a little invert food, some silversides cut into small pieces etc. The brine are ok but, they don't have a lot of nutritional value so if you can give it a varied diet it will be much happier. Also make sure that your water qualtiy stays constant and good and this guy might just out live you. Also how long has your tank been set up they need at least a 6-8 month old tank to really thrive. I love anemones but they aren't easy this is one of the best choices for a 1st one though they are much more forgiving than some of the others.

maxilaria,

Thanks for the advice on this (along with my "rapid breathing" post). I have been varying what I feed. In the mornings, I feed the anemome PhytoPlex (Phytoplankton) and then at night I feed it Marine Snow (another type of phytoplankton). The fish get fed marine flakes, and brine shrimp. In your last post you referred to something as "IME"...what exactly is that? Also...does anyone know where I can find info and pics of this anemome?

IME = in my experience. They also like a little meaty food like brine, mysis and small chunks of fish.
I hope this helps

Gotcha...thanks.

Now, for the newest development. The Anemome has decided to "blow up"...and is sitting in the corner of the tank, not rooted. There is what only I can describe as a long "bubble" shaped "thing" coming out of it's mouth. It is aprox. 2 inches long and about a half inch wide. It's just there...lol...I dont know how else to describe it or what's it's doing. Please tell me this isnt a bad thing. The tentacles are still moving, so it's definately still alive...and it seems to be fine. Just this "bubble" thing coming from it's mouth. What is it??

Well. sort of hard to say mines mouth blow up when they are eating or deficating mostly. Did you just feed your tank ? When you say it's not attached do you mean it's just sort of floating around? If so that's probably not a good thing they tend to attach themselves and not move around much at all when they've found their home.

Well...for the newest development. I'm sorry to say, but the anemome has died. I got home from work, today, and it was still in the corner of the tank. Only, this time, if had shriveled up to the size of a golf ball. I gave it a proper burial of a plastic bag, and the trash can in the alley. I just dont understand why it died. The tank perms. where just fine and it was eating fine until last night when it started moving around. Salt water is so much more frustrating than freshwater. Oh well...it seems the clown, blenny, and firefish are happier now that the anemome is gone. Maybe I was stupid and overloaded the tank. On my way home from work today, I stopped and purchased a 150 gallon tank. Hopefully what everyone says is true and big tanks are so much easier to maintain than small ones. I'm going to cycle both my 55 gal. and my new 150 gal. and make the 55 gal. an all fish marine and the 150 gal. a large reef. I still think I'll wait, though, on the anemomes since this is the second one that I've murdered. :(

Well...I took the Blenny back to the LFS, where I got it. By the way...if anyone from Chicago is reading this, dont shop at Thee Fish Bowl on Dempster and Chicago...they're retards. I called, before I went, and they said "yeah, bring it back, we'll refund". So, I take it back, and the fat owner took it and put in a tank and she said "well, we'll watch it for a few days and see what happens." The Blenny had a large circle on it's side that was without a doubt either a bacterial or fungal infection and the lady said "well...your fish are beating it up...look at it's wounds!" I asked who to give the reciept to, to get a refund and she said "I dont do that. We only give refunds on dry goods, not fish." But, alas, the reciept clearly says "all refund and exchanges must be within 10 days, with reciept". Not "we dont guarantee our fish". What does she expect me to do...wait a few days, and then go and pick up the fish that's messing everything up, and put it back in my tank? So, not only did their fish screw up my tank, but also I found today, my dead Sally Lightfoot Crab, that was perfect last night. They tested my water (ammonia was unreadable. Nitrates and Nitrites were like .05 or something...everything is perfect). Of course, they deny that "their fish" had anything to do with the death of the anemome and the Lightfoot Crab. Everything went to hell when I put this Bi-color Blenny in. So, let's see...I'm out $18 for the Sally Lightfoot. $25 dollars for the Flower Anemome. All because of a screwed up fish that cost me about $12. Isnt saltwater keeping lovely? Anyway...enough ranting and raving...sorry guys.
