Well I've been posting a lot lately to much time in my hands :headshake2: lol anywho I'm thinking of trying a nice breeding project. I have to ideas and I just want to know everyines thoughts. I would like to try and get some high grade flower horn juvis and pair them up. I think it'd be nice to get HQ flower horns, then just sell them online and to local fish keepers. My other plan is to get ahold of a few Blue Gene female Jack dempseys I have a large male as you all know 10.5inches he's an absolute beast, if I get some blue gene females and try to produce high quality EBJD I think that'd also be nice, of course i'd be selling them on here and MFK just like any cichlids I breed. And suggestions and ideas for species to breed are welcome I can order from Jeff Rapps at anytime and get very nice breeders, just wana know what everyone would like to see. Thank you for your input!

My male is a Regular Jack Dempsey. Just dawned on me that I need a male EBJD hahaha, oh well I'm sure If I do a lil lookin around I could easily find a nice breeder.

The fry would be viable? See I was always told that you NEED a male becuase the males genes are more dominant than the females. But hell that'd work to I just need a pretty good sized female.

You need a BGJD x EBJD or BGJD x BGJD to get EBJD fry. Finding adult EBJD is difficult, the only ones I've found would be prohibitively expensive for shipping (I think I was quoted that it would be $350 to overnight him, that didn't include the cost of the fish).

If you just get a female EBJD and breed her with the male regular dempsey then you won't get any EBJD fry, only BGJD fry. You could then grow those out and cross them (though would be better to get a BGJD from a separate source for less inbreeding).

I couldn't answer that. I have plans to breed my EBJD male, I have several JD/BGJD fry mixed together so it's a crap shoot as to whether he hooks up with the right one lol.

I would definitely check on the JD forum site, there are a couple guys on there that are professional breeders and can probably give you answers via experience rather than the traditional internet knowledge (Cut n Pasteology)

I took this info from an online site, so I don't know how reliable it is, I know next to nothing about genetics :)
http://bluejax.co.uk/breeding.aspx

in the first part he talks about how a ebjd/jd mix produces 100% bgjd, then carries on to speculate about an ebjd/jd producing ebjd fry. makes no sense :(

Well I could buy an EBJD grow him or her out see if it becomes a male or female and then decied from there what to do. I'm thinking if I buy a EBJD juvi becuase that's really all you can get unless someome traded in around here, place it in a grow out tank then look for another juvi EBJD from a different LFS or Vendor and grow them out together once I get male or female I can make the choice as to if I should buy female jacks and start from scratch Itd be a pain but worth it in the end. Maybe I'll look around for just a female blue gene and a nice sized EBJD. Or I could always get two blue genes from two diffrent sellers?

Yeah genetics are confusing but I got deep into this idea a few years ago I think it was and I had the whole punnet squares and genes written out with each particular trait I wanted from each Jack ahaha I'm a nut job if anyone wondered
