I think my amazon sword is starting to flower. The plant is 12 inches tall and has been doing very well since I've acquired it. Is there anyway to propagate it from this? Here's a pic and let me know what you think.

It looks like a very young plantlet. Eventually it should grow it's own leaves and roots and separate from the parent plant. You could then plant it in the substrate.

I see, It not actually a "flower" but an asexual plantlet.

Thanks for the info!

yup..one of my swords is doing the same thing.

yee-haw.more sword plants :bday:

Nice

just to let you know, when the flower actually starts to grow, youd want to cut them off because the plant will try to bloom the flower and they stop sending nutrients to the leaves.
flower = dead leaves. expect that :)

thats how my anubias died.....

More than likely the picture is not a flower but a plantlet runner. It should develop directly into a new plant, skipping the flower stage. But as far as a plantlet would affect nutrition in the parent plant, I do not know.

I've been watching it and if it is a flower, I plan on chopping it off, but if it's a plantlet I'll let it mature some and then replant it.

typically if you let a plant flower much of the energy goes to the flower..if you cut the flower..the energy goes to the plant growth..
