I was wondering if it would be a good idea to go with a lower water level and let some on the plants that have flowers, grow out of the water. I would be getting rid of my HOB and use only cannisters.

Andy16,

There would be no reason for a plant to flower underwater. The plant won't do that. It will send all flowers up to the surface. Lowering the water level is not necessary.

Anubias flower submerse routinely. Of course there is some question if these plants ever really "know" that they are submerse. They don't set seed in my tanks sumberse.

Most tank aquatics do send shoots to the surface or beyond to flower (swords, val, crinums, water lily), or do emense growth before flowering (most stem plants), or only flower normally when grown emerse (Crypts).

But aquarium aquatics are rarely grown for their flowers.
