Fluval 104 leaking like crazy help!!

hey guys ive had this filter for a while and never had a problem now suddenly it has begun leaking out of the sides where the top clamps to bottom, sometimes it will go for days without leaking then ill comehome one day and 5 gallons or more are out, i put the filter inside a bucket for now but id like a real fix to this. has anyone else had this problem?

Don't have that filter, but I would take it apart an inspect all the O rings for damage and cracks. Do you lube the seals every time you take it apart for cleaning?

no, not at all, all the seals look fine

use a dab of vaseoline and wipe it all around the o ring not thick just a light coat. if that stops the problem you need to order a new o ring they do wear out.

I'm willing to bet the seal is seated wrong or just not good anymore. Try some vasoline on it to see if that helps. Some times the seal just needs to be lubricated. Many times an oring/seal can look ok, but with time the seal gets worn down, and even though it may look ok it wont work no matter what you do.

I've had one of my Fluval 304's for 13+ yrs now and the same thing happened to me last year. I got a new o-ring/seal for it. The old one looked perfect to me still but I guess looks just don't matter after that many years...shrug. Worked like new again =)

If you take the lid O ring and stretch it under a bright light of you see cracks appear like an old rubber-band gets cracks in it then it needs to be replaced and while your at it get new aquastop valve o-rings as well at Lowe's or Home depot for $0.58 a pair or 2 packs. for $1.16. Here is the part and number to look for. I recently replaced mine and they work perfect. Also I have included a link for great Also I recently bought new lid Orings which are a great deal, I only paid $6 but he raised his price but still great for $7.77 shipped.

ok thanks alot yeah i found some online but im gonna wait till tomorrow to go to my LFS and see if they have any, if not ill order some new ones

why pay crazy lfs prices when home depot or lowes or some other hardware store will have the same product for way cheaper?
