has anybody set up a canister filter that is at the same height as the aquarium? my fluval is not designed (i think) to work this way as it depends on a siphon to bring water into the canister.

i'm thinking I can use a powerhead inside the aquarium and pump the water out to the canister?

i'm trying to avoid drilling some holes in a countertop and running the filter below the aquarium.

thanks

One of my tanks is on a 304 which is only an inch or two lower.

The difficulty is with the priming. Once the thing is going, it's fine. I fill the canister and the intake with water manually before fitting it together. Works fine then.

I have a Fluval 304 that I run right beside my 55 gallon tank. The top of the canister is only 2-4 inches below the water surface. It has been running fine for over a year. I used to have problems priming it but I found that if I filled the canister to the top with water before putting the head on it solved all my problems as the filter is basically primed at that point.

thanks

yup,
the priming was the problem. filling the canister with water and once the tubes filled, there was minimal problems.
thanks.
