Fluval 404 / 405 DIY micron & sponge filter modification (Gunner's F404 Supercart)

I just use a small pond pump (200 gph) placed over the intake for a forced prime.....my issue is my 75% water changes that take the water level below the intake.

With my nitrate filters in full bloom keeping my toxins low I do 30% water changes every 3 weeks now and juts keep my intakes and heaters below the waterline. The only filters I have to shut down are my HOB nitrate filters, as you know they cant take much draw, but my 404"s as long as the intake has an extension below the water line its not an issue.

Maybe I am getting dense as the years pass but....
OK so I got the mounting of the fitting and how it inserts to the Propeller.
Filter and then a tube out the bottom. How does this all go together?
Did you leave the tube that long for a reason? Where would you place the Bio Media.

I am interested in fllowing your directions as I have a 404 that I originally retired. If I get a clear picute of what teh end result looks like I may give it a whirl.

You have already posted quite a bit so if you want to let this be finished I understand

Tomorrow Ill be moding my 2nd Fluval 404 from scratch with the new 1 micron pleated filter I ordered and will post each procedure step by step, so there will be a few post this time rather then an abbreviated post, simple but long and may take more then a day to finish posting as I am doing other projects like installing shelving in the garage. It will incorperate a few slight improvements for a better fit.

Look for it as it will be titled "Gunners Supercart 404-A"

You might consider taking your step by step pictures for the entire project and putting them in one post. This helps to clarify the modifications you are doing without having to wade through other people's comments.

Then if someone has a specific question on a step, this can be addressed in more detail. This keeps your DIY thread cleaner and helps to prevent missing a particular step of your modifications.

Just my 2 cents, Dee.

OK, It just means it will have to wait until next week since I will have to save and build the comments, photos, and supply sources while working on other projects and appoints which I need to keep. PTL although this modification is radical and a huge improvement, it is also beautifully simple and yet revertible for those that would want to. Although I can tell you anyone that follows through with thes mod will wonder why they would ever need their baskets again.

If your truly serious then you should read the entire thread which covers 90% of the entire modification step by step with photo's. After that if you have a specific question for a specific step I will be more then happy to answer whatever questions you have.
Respectfully, Gunner
