I just installed a new Fluval 404 filter on my 75G. In the instructions it stated that I should keep the output nozzle above the water line (If I read correctly). I prefer not to have the splash effect so I mounted mine just below the water line. It is close enough that it still stirs the top of the surface. Can anyone think of any problems this may cause? I couldn't find anything in the manual that stated why it should be above the waterline.

I have a 72 gal and th esame filter, i also install the out nozzle below th ewater line, its working out preety good so far...

I have a 304 and I have the spray nozzel at or just below the water line and it works great, the one reason they want you to have it higher is so that oxygenation is at a maximum, but I have never had a problem.

Yea, I was a little confused by those directions too, when I set mine up...but mine is below the water line and is working great in my 75g - I also have a Fluval Underwater Filter 4 in the tank, and that is set to add some air bubbles, so I think I'm covered for oxygenation. Fluvals are great!

hey guys I am considering getting a fluval 404 for my 72 G, what are the good points and bad points from you (the guys who have it and use it daily) also if you do not like it what would you reccomend for around the same ballbark in price range.

From my experience you can't match the price. I got mine for 97$ and that included media. I haven't had mine very long so I have not cleaned it yet or seen how long it lasts. It does seem a little cheap in the way it looks compared to others but I have had no problems so far. The only two things I don't like are lack of integrated heater (Like some eheim's have) and the lack of alternate output devices. In full flow the sucker can generate one heck of a current and I want to lower that. Because of that I am thinking of making my own spraybar like others here have done.

PS> You may want to post a new article. Many people have probably quit reading this one by now.

Also The Fuval 404 looks and feels Fragile .. to me atleast.. other wise not problems…. Yet ;)
