I wound up putting an AC 30 on my 10g today. They are as awesome as everyone suggests with respect to media. It is a NOISY bugger though. Much more so than the bio-wheel 100 it replaced. It's even louder than my Top Fin 30 that's been running for about 6 months.

My marineland/penguin bio-wheel 100 started giving me problems. I couldn't get decent water flow out of it, even after repeated cleanings and the bio-wheel eventually refused to rotate. I woke up to horribly cloudy water in the 10g today, so a large water change was done and an AC 30 was added.

I have the AC30 on my 10gal too Freshy and i dont have a noise issue at all with it. Is the cover on correctly? You could try to place something with a decent amount of weight on top of the AC30 to see if any noise continues. Or just remove the cover completely like i did with my AC70

Really? Have you tried lubing the impeller shaft or reseating the plastic plate that goes over the impeller? Sometimes that gets knocked askew on my 70, and it's noisy until I set it level again.

I'm still loving my C2's (I have two now lol) and C3. I normally keep the flow rate to low because up to 50% of the water in the filter is re-processed multiple times (more impurities are filtered out).

I recently added a Zoo Med Nano 501 canister filter to my 6G Fluval Edge and I must say I really do like them a lot more than the HoB filters. I hope the C's I have last me a good long time, but when they do finally poop out I'll replace them with canisters.

I've never seen the 501. Looks intriguing. That said, if I have to have on filter, I prefer a high quality HOB, just for ease of access, and if I can have two, I want a HOB and a canister.

I'm happy with my C2. I'm ecstatic with my AC 20 and 70. I was quite unhappy with my Top Fin 60. I tolerated my biowheel, whatever model would handle 55 gallons (it's been a decade since I had that thing). I'll *gladly* buy a C series again, as long as it suited my needs.

I have an AC30, AC70, and a C4. I love them all. Easy to maintain and access. The C series is easiest to maintain IMO due to the fact you dont need to shut it of to clean it or replace media when need be BUT the AC's are more versatile for media and useful for other things such as a refugium. Also, ive heard people say that there practically no room for added media in the C series but i disagree. Once i removed the carbon, I had an empty compartment so i just added more biomax. That way if i ever need to seed a tank i can take one of the biobags out and seed that tank.
