Fluval fx5 leaking!

Heard alot of good things about eheim filters, guess the biggest difference would be the gph where the fx5 has twice as much flow than the biggest eheim 2080.

So this isn't the biggest filter eheim has to offer, the 2262 seems to be the biggest that I have found, it claims 900gph. Sorry not trying to hijack this thread but wanted to fix my mistaken information.

FYI. its not so much the size comparison as the design difference. A circumferential filter, is a scientifically engineered tried and true industry design that has been in use for decades in almost all commercial applications from aerospace to healthcare. The stacked basket filter design was developed for the home aquaria market which provides the consumer a simple way of cleaning and the manufacture a way of marketing the consumer a cornucopia of unnecessary and expensive media options at repetitive cost, all at the cost of efficiency. The truth if it can be accepted is that regardless of the fact that there are home basket filters available with much more volume then the FX5 circumference filter, there is no comparison when it comes to effectiveness or capacity, the circumference design is just factually a far and away more superior proven design. Sort of like comparing a broom to a vacuum cleaner, both will eventually get the job done while one is far superior, its just an unequivocal fact.

Not always true when you do the math...just saying....circ gives you cubic inches for media but flow is as limited as any stacked container by pump and inlet/outlet diameters....

Well, I got in the two new clamps about a week ago and I have not seen a single drop of water or wet spot in my stand since :)

There you go, that's one way to fix it. Watch for cracks in the other older little orange plastic lugs that lock into the bottom of the canister lid-lip as the older ones may have already started splitting (happened to me) especially of over-tightened at one time or another. If they split all the way the clamp will come loose and leak. If split at all I would replace the entire OEM clamp assembly as well $9 (not necessary) or buy ($3) a 6ft length of 1/4 (smallest size) PVC from which you can cut about 280 new lugs for a fraction of a penny each lol.
