Fluval Fx5 Modification

Ah cool, thanks for the clarification. Like I said, I've never seen the internals of an FX5 firsthand - my only canisters right now are some 10+ year old fluvals that operate the way I described. Thanks for the clarification.

I am almost finished modifing the top cover. I really think this is the key to making the system purge the way it should without using bulk heads or ball valves on the top portion of the cover which may not work still.

After using 3" PVC, heating and molding acrylic and using some silicone. I believe its a winner :)

The filter now purges 100%!!
YES! My cover modification worked!!!

What you see is plexi glass that was heat molded so that is concaved, high on the outside and low on the inside where the 3" PVC fitting is. Then silicone all over the place which I may have to redo since I forgot to take off the protective plastic covering on one piece of the plexi and its on the underside of the plexi so the silicone may seporate. If so I will just fix it.
FILTER WORKS GREAT!
