I am thinking of running a Fluval FX5 in a new 92 Corner Freshwater setup. The tank is drilled and I would run it through the overflow vs. over the back of the tank. I have not heard much regarding this filter. Is anyone running one? Opinions? I tried to search but the function does not seem to be working. I am looking for a lot of flow in the tank and also a lot of filtration. In past tanks I have always run either 2 canisters or a canister and a HOB but with a corner tank it is a little more difficult without looking like crap. Livestock will be several plecs along with a few other fish that can handle the flow.

My other option is to run a 20 gallon sump with a mag 12 that I have from an old SW setup. I have never run one on a freshwater system but I would imagine that it would not be any different except for losing the skimmer. I never ran bio balls with the SW set up but I would imagine that they would not become the nitrate factory that they do with SW. Would I just run Bio Balls and mechanical filtration? If a need came to run carbon do you just set bags in the bottom of the sump?

Anyway, I know it is a lot of questions but really looking to know if the FX5 is a quality piece of equipment and if that would make sense to run vs. the sump.

Thanks
