I had a stand made and I have a problem with it being a little out of square. It's just 1\16th out but its from top to bottom and I'm afraid of putting the tank on it for fear of crracking. It is going on carpet but i want to make sure and i've read that some people put foam under the tank to compensate for the difference. Has anyone ever done this before, and if so did it work out alright?

Well, even though I build my own stands and they are a level and square I still add the foam " just in case". I just use the pink sheets its pretty dense foam. I have my 180 gallon on it now and u cant even notice it compress that much. Just paint the edges to match color of tank or stand.

Thanks for the info, I think i'll just add some trim around the top to cover the edge of the foam. I was thinking about 1\2 inch thick foam, would this be enough?

If you have a smaller tank, I would think so(no guarantees here though..lol) I just always overkill, just in case...

125 gallon all glass. I wouldn't think I would need any more than 3\4" high density insulation foam, would you?

Tell us how this works out. Just curious to see how much compression is involved.

All my tanks have the foam underneath. In fact, some manufacturers require it for the warranty to be valid.

on my 110, diy build...i used 1inch thick foam sheets...worked a treat...i also believe in overkill when its something that is as serious as a potential tank bust through being out of level...

The only tank I used foam sheets under is my plywood tank. I use weatherstripping under all my other tanks though, just to smooth out the surface they sit on. I use metal shims under the stand legs if necessary to level, then the weatherstripping between the tank and stand to give it a flush surface to rest on. Seems to work well so far.

Yes, the 3/4" will work fine. You should also be surprised at how little it compresses.
