Fog Machine

I think most of them splash somewhat. Mine does, but it is more of a spray than a fountainlike splashing..The depth of the water should be around 2-3" depending on the size of the mister. It is also recommended not to use hard water with a mister, as it will eventually corrode the parts with mineral deposits. I wouldn't leave it on all the time either, or you'll get some over-heating issues..not to mention, the discs will wear out much faster. You could put it on a timer to come on a couple of hours at night, when you can see it and enjoy it.

The 'timer' is a great idea..!

Hello; i saw one in a 48 inches aquarium, that had maybe 8 inches of water; it had a big bunch of plants, many emerging from the water, and a just a few small white cloud fish . It was very special looking; and i am thinking of getting one of those fog machines.

i would think that the ultrasonic machines would REALLY annoy the fish.

basically you are taking the driver for an ultrasonic cleaner and holding it just under the surface of the water so that most of the energy is used to shatter the water into microscopic droplets (fog)

"most" is the operative word; the rest of the energy (besides the heat) has to be going into the water as loud sound levels (at ultrasonic frequencies). at a high enough power level you could emulsify the fish -- not likely here unless the driver was far under water -- but i would expect some level of damage to the fishes' inner organs

i vote for a mister. if you have to have fog, put the driver outside the tank and have the fog roll in over the sides of the tank
