I have two females bettas together. If I put fry in for them to eat would they fight over it and injure each other? They get along so well I don't want to cause strife between them.

Wow, no aggression issues? That's very lucky! I do t think you'll have issues just because of food, what & how do you feed them now?

I feed them pellets and blood worms. I always supervise. And I try to herd or flick one out of the way if she is pigging out while the other hasn't gotten any.

There were others involved in the setup. One so aggressive she grabbed Peach by the jaw and the wrestled like pit bulls. So I separated her but she jumped out while I was gone and died. The other was weird and would act submissive one minute but aggressive the next. She was beaten to death. Leaving only two left. So not really lucky. At all. Just Cherry is smart and acts submissive towards Peach.

But they get along great. The dog pile to get a look at me if I'm by the aquarium. Maybe next time at the LFS I'll buy some fry for them to chase and eat. But today I only got some for the males because I was worried about aggression.

You're buying fry from an lfs? What kind? Or do you mean live brine shrimp?

They were baby mollys. Only my largest betta (my male Kiss) and my largest female shrimp were able to catch and eat them. Kind of a bust but the other fish got some exercise.

Oh btw I prob wasn't paying enough attention to my females and/or they are getting bigger and tired of each other because I noticed some bullying tonight. I'm going to move them to a ten gallon and introduce in some more faes to ease the tension. I hope no one gets to injured in the meantime. :( I'm going to do it as soon as possible.

feeding live fish from the lfs is a gamble on your bettas' health. frozen, flake, pellets, etc is more than enough variety for them.

if you really want to feed fry then i would suggest having another tank at home with some guppies or other livebearers breeding in it. this way you know for sure what you are feeding to your bettas and can rest assured that parasites and other diseases won't be transferred over.

I figured as much. But they weren't 'feeder' fish. The mollys just had some babies. So I thought they would be relatively safe. And I have prazipro on hand for quartine purposes. What other dieases should I worry about?

How small a tank can I keep a pair of guppies in? 5g?

any fish from the lfs i would be wary of carrying parasites or other diseases (ick, velvet, worm infestations, bacterial infections, viral infections, etc). this is why we should quarantine all new fish when we bring them home before adding them to the main tanks.

i'd set up a 10 gallon if you want to have a 'feeder fry nursery'. it can be relatively simple with a sponge filter and some plastic plants weighted down. you could leave the tank bare bottom for ease of cleaning, since you'll be feeding those fry really well to 'gut load' them for feeding to the bettas.
