hi, i think that i am going to sell my 7-8 inch xingu black rhom. i originally purchased this from a member on piranha fury back in january of 2008. he got it a 1.5 yrs earlier from aquascapeonline. it eatrs raw thawed out shrimp, pieces of catifish and tilapia fillets, and of course when there is live stuff added he eats that too. its just me in the house with him so he is a little shy. mainly sits in the corner when i am in the room. a while back my folks were licving here for a couple months and at that time with the constant flow of traffic he got over that shyness and would eat food as soon as i dropped it in the tank. now he has reverted back to being shy and it takes a few minutes for him to go get food. my niece and gfs daughter when over do get followed by him though. there heads just barely reach the tank where he can see them and if they walk by he shoots upo to the front of the glass and will follow them down the length of the glass. when i got him he did have to completely healed scars on his left side. i think these are heater burnes. they are healed and have scales but when kept on light (white) substrate and a light back ground they do show up as darker areas. i have natural rock in the tank and have my glass tinted on the back and he has turned a complete gun metal gray. you cant see the scars unless you knew they were there. im asking for $125 (negotiateable) pick up only in the milwaukee area. i can meet a short distance away. im putting pics on here that i took. not very good. i had to adjust the brightness and what not so you can see the fish.

Phantoms,

VERY nice fish! The price is reasonable as well. Too bad you don't have a few more. 1 fish doesn't do me any good. It could take years to find a few more...as nice as your's. Have the Rhoms ever been bred in captivity?

Rich

im not sure if anyone has bred any rhoms in captivity. they dont do well with tank mates. you might want to ask your question on piranha fury. as far as finding nice rhoms, there are quite a few out there. its just that your local lfs wont be carrying them. where ya from?

Thanks for the quick response. I was just over at PF, and apparently they've never been bred in captivity. For exactly the same reason you mentioned...they don't do well together. I live in Chicago, so I'm definetely close enough for a pickup. I just got some 12" red bellies from Eagle River, which have already bred several times. So I know how to transport them. I even have a 125 open. But I can't justify keeping 1 fish in a large tank...all by itself. Especially without any hopes of breeding it. You sparked my interest, and I'll do some more research on them. But it's unlikely that I'll follow through with a puchase. Very cool fish though!

yeah i have hom currently in a 120. i wouldnt sell him to anyone unless they had at least a 75 gallon tank. if you come into a little bit smaller tank (not smaller then a 75 though) id let you have him for 100 bucks cash. id even meet you at gurnee mills. transporting should be easy. i drove to madison and got him originally. i just used a 5 gallon bucket with half water.....fish was fine and killed a couple shiners that night that i had left in the tank from something else.

12 inch red bellies!!?!?!? **** those must be nice looking. yeah i drove to tinley park a week ago to buy some baby wolf fish from a guy. he bought an adult pair from some body and they ended up breeding. they are a lot less shy and already coming up to the top of their temp tank to take food out of my hands haha. they hatched out jan 11th i believe and are about 5 inches. im going to put them in the 120.

Phantoms,
You just made me an offer that is too tempting to pass up. The only thing is, I've never been to Gurnee Mills (except for 6 Flags). How about going another exit (or two). We could meet at the pet shop...at Lamb's Farm. I've donated fish there before, and I know exactly where that is.

I'm curious as to why you mentioned a tank smaller then a 125? My plan is to give it it's own 125, and hopefully find a few more. You are experienced with them. Is that a bad idea? I have other 125s for the other Rhoms.

I'll PM my phone number, and we can setup a time and a date.
Thanks,

Rich
