for shrimp... real or fake plants ok?

You would be surprised, these low light plants are pretty hardy, you won't be pruning every day, but they should survive with very little light. I think java fern grows in the dark.

Worst case scenario you try a couple of species that don't work and scrap the idea and go with fake.

My personal favorites that grow well for me.

Anubias Lanceolata
Anubias Nana narrow leaf
Bolbitis heudelotii (african water fern)
Crypt Lutea
Ruby melon sword
Guppy grass

Both Mgamer and Customdrum in the classifieds have very nice low light plants for sale, as do others. Heck, next time I cut my stuff back I could send you a few.

Java moss is great for shirmp tanks, and requires very little light. Mine are always crawling in it. I'm of the mindset that no shrimp should be denied java moss though. And if you're worried, try adding some blue and red leds to the mix. Plants use blue and red light to grow, so supplying that light will help to. I've known people who plant seeds in tubs that are lite only with blue and red LED strips and the plants look like they grew in full sun.
