If the subject is newer vehicles, it is Ford - due to research on the 2 makers, it can be proven Ford is more reliable.

If Chevy had a little insight on what buyers wanted in an SUV, they would not have downsized the Blazer into something just slightly larger than the old stationwagon of years ago...

That Chevy in the above post looks great!

DUDE SS ALL THE WAY!!!

Hasn't the Mustang been outselling GM fare for the past 41 years? I mean, the '99 & '00 Mustang single-handedly knocked the Camaro and Firechicken out of the car market. Look at the numbers. My Laser Red '00 Mustang GT sold more units than all colors of Camaros and Firebirds in the year 2000. ....and Ford has plenty more colors than Laser Red.

The '05 Mustang's enormous popularity has sparked GM to create what ? .... that's right, a new prototype "retro" Camaro. It looks so much like a '69 Camaro, its scary. Not sticking to their roots is what killed the Camaro/F-chicken sales. If their 90's models had any of the style or flair of their ancestors, they might still be in business, but they chose to make bland looking cars and shoe-horned them with large displacement V8's. Didn't Pontiac learn their lesson before making the new GTO ? (cough, cough, Chevy Cavalier with a 350) Blech! What a disgrace to the GTO name plate. GM should be ashamed.

Anyhow, this debate is too far-ranging to be subjective. Lets compare a Ford Focus to a Corvette ? ...or a Chevy Chevette to a Ford GT ?

youve got to be kidding me....chevy is not the one to be critisizing for using retro styling...lets see...

chevy ----- concept camaro

ford ------ mustang, gt40, and thunder bird

dodge----- charger(almost no resemblance at all) and concept challenger

notice how the front and is completely redone(unlike the mustang) and so is the rearend(unlike the mustang). For retro there is very little the same except for the overall side view

05_mustang.jpg

yeah it looks like an old one

and well you already saw the exact replica GT of the GT 40 (wait i forgot its 1/5 bigger)

and here is a pic of the challenger just to show you that chevy is on track compared to dodge too.

i just through this in hear because its bad @$$ and compared to that GT 40 the
performance numbers are very very close. Considering the price difference and overall looks i would take the vette anyday(unless i could sell the GT and get 3 corvette Z06's to play with)

Here's my old bow tie ('69 Stingray convertible, hard and soft tops)....great fun for road trips before we produced fry. It definitely wasn't the greatest testament to American engineering, but it was big fun while we had it.

Well for the first one, don't even get me started...Corvette smokes the Ford Focus awayyyyy.....

Now...For the second one, I would like to give you some stats too. The two cars a very similar, not that much of a difference. Just the BIGGEST difference is the price. The Chevy Corvette compared to a Ford GT: (The * represents the better one)

Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Best lap time: 1:32.75
Best lap average speed (mph): 73.0
0-60 mph/quarter-mile (sec): 4.1/12.0
Braking 70-0 mph (ft): 149*
Cornering l/r (g): 1.10/1.09
Weight (lb): 3147*
Distribution f/r (%): 50.9/49.1
Top speed (mph): 198
Price: Starting at $65,690*

Ford GT
Best lap time 1:32.45*
Best lap average speed (mph) 73.2*

Braking 70-0 mph (ft) 156
Cornering l/r (g) 1.03/1.01*

so close its scary considering the price difference. Some of those things are so close it could be a simple driver error( best lap average speed- 73 - 73.2 ) and lap time are extremely close (1:32.45 - 1:32.75 ). BUt i didnt realise how much lighter the corvette really is!I actually cant believe how cheap the ford gt's have goton they use to be much more expensive!

oh yeah and i thought the closest thing to 50/50 weight distrobution would be better, even though the gt has a worse balance you have it starred

Price isn't the biggest difference. That Ford will probably last a long time, and hold its value well. That 'Vette will be the same rattle trap my buddy's turned into (2-yr-old Z06, about 20,000 careful miles, everything feels like it's shaking loose on it). Tragedy is, that car sounded amazing the day he bought it...but the amount it depreciated (and malfunctioned) in that short time was amazing, too.

I'd like to buy another 'Vette, but I want Chevy to actually make it more reliable than my old Stingray. You think they could achieve this over the course of 40 years?

Oh ya. they should at least. Any ways, I'm sure that the Gt would last longer. And if it did'nt and I bought it, I would be FURIOUS!!! I spent all that money and ***WA-BAM*** it blows up or it costs more fixing it then buying a used or new one.
