Went out fossil hunting, to find some more stuff to bring to the big party. I am currently not on speaking terms with money (but I am hoping we come to terms with each other), so I have already made a small pile of driftwood and river rocks.
I mentioned to friend on here that brachiopod fossils were common as dirt around here, adn that I knew a great Devonian site, and they asked me if I could grab them a few. So, I figured I might as well get enough for everyone. So, after climbing up an extremely steep scree slope, spending 4 hours in the sun, and sliding back down the sharp shale scree, I have a big ol' bag of fossils. Mostly brachipods, but a few bivalves. And some tiny crinoid columnals, of course.

Here are shots of a few nice ones. Not all of them are this good, mind you.

This is the biggest internal cast I've ever seen. Instead of showing the outside of the brach, this one was fill internally with sediment. So you get an internal view of the fossil.

A nice jumble of brachs and bivalves. Normally I don't like rocks this 'busy', but this one is nice. Has internal casts, external molds and casts.

Bio........ taking nerd to a whole new level

Pretty cool. I use to go fossil hunting all the time. I have quite a big collection packed up in my basement somewhere.

Way cool, Bio.

I have a fossil I hope you can help identifiy. At first I thought it was a snail, but I don't know, I've had second thoughts about it. Tell me what you think this is. You and Jinks may know what this is.

It's definitely some kind of mollusk, but I'm not sure what it is, maybe it's some kind of bivalve. It's fossilized, whatever it is.

I really like those. Mel, I have no idea what that fossil is you have, but it sure is neat!

Cool rocks, Bio. Or should I more properly say, "fossils?" Anyway, too cool for words.

Hmmm, I have no idea, lol. I need a god fossil ID book, lol. Lemme ask my geology professor. :)
