I found what I can best ID as a sea apple in my tank. I noticed a feathery crown coming out of the sand in my tank. At first I thought it might be aptasia, but when it retracted I could see that it was a large worm like creature.

I have isolated the worm and would like to know if I should remove it. I read that they can be very toxic and kill a tank. I will try to get a picture to post so I can get a positive ID.

yeah, def take a picture. hopefully it is some type of harmless cucumber and not a sea apple. lol

This is the best pic I could manage to get. The worm is in the tube and you can sort of make out the crown on top.

I think that it must have been buried in the same spot for some time. I must have always startled it when I turned on the lights in the morning and just never saw it until now.

i also cannot tell from the pic. it might be best to flush it incase it is something bad.
however, if you can get a clearer pic or a better ID, that would be good

I really thinks thats some kind of apstasia. I've seen that in my rock or someting just like that. I'd get rid of it for sure. You probably be better off.

are you sure it is an actual worm on the end?
it looks like a super inflated majano anem to me, but if yay it moves around and such often.... majano will move around, but not really quick enough for you to noticably see while watching it.
keep taking those pics :)

I'll try for some better pics, but for now I'm still stumped. I had aptasia, and this isn't the same thing. It does seem dull for a sea apple, and I don't think that it is a sea cucumber. Maybe it is some sort of anemone, but I can't ID it.

I have it out of my tank now, but it must have been in there for over a year. I haven't added anything but fish/ inverts to this tank since I started it last January.
