i have a 10 gallon betta tank with some feeder snails and some nice nerites. Anyway, I found a nice batiki snail in one of the HOB filters while doing some maintenance. It was near the top of the filter clearly visible

I put him back into the tank and was wondering if I should be concerned that he/she was back there. Could he/she live there for a while? Do I need to do more frequent filter checks? Thanks for your opinions.

Wouldn't worry about it, I've found snails, shrimp, and fry in my HOB's. Usually rather healthy when I pull them out last time I took a fry out it was larger then all the ones that had been in the tank.

i get snails in my filters all the time. ramshorns in the planted tank and pond snails in the canister on the big guys' tank. nothing to worry about at all.

is long as its only small pest snails i wouldent be worried.

but if it is more expensive snails i would put a foam filter over the intake of the filter

Yep, snails get everywhere. The only times I remove snails from a filter is if I'm doing filter maintenance, or if a snail is causing the impeller to grind.

or if a snail is causing the impeller to grind.

oy! i know that sound all too well. rrrrr......rrrrrr....... pook! (the pook is the snail being ejected from the impeller, lol)
