FOWLR= special lighting?

How many watts of lighting should I use on a 75g, I'm assuming the single bulb light that came with the tank will be insufficient?
 
as its a Fish Only With Live Rock, there are no special lighting requirements. The standard bulbs that come in aquarium canopys/hoods are sufficient..

Some people will add a low wattage actinic, about 15 - 20w and use this to simulate dusk and dawn eftects...

don't you need more for coraline and such? i myself am a bit confused on how much light i should have. 55 gal., & my lr is o.k., but not real colorful.
 
it is true that coralline does benefit from adequate lighting, and, in my opinion, the better the lighting the better coralline growth...However, a FOWLR itself does not need any lighting requirements...

I decided against it for now. Don't really need it. My coraline is doing great and I've noticed that it is spreading to other rocks and even my MagFloat.

Unless you are planning on having corals at some point, Normal Output lights should do you just fine.

If you plan on doing corals, might as well splurge on the lights since they will be an integral part of your success.
 
I bought the Coralife Aqualight for my fish "only" even though I didn't need it. Eventually I ended up putting corals in it (and I swore up and down I wouldn't do that!) and I was glad I didn't have to switch lighting. If you think you may eventually add corals to yours down the road, I would recommend going with the better light.
 
Ive heard that the regualr lights dont show the colors of the fish, and the tank can appear dull. I just dont want to come home from the LFS and have it look dull and boring
 
What came with the tank? A single fluorescent tube? Not an incandescent I hope?:eek3:

I've got a normal output, dual tube fluorescent light strip. Fish look fine to me under that lighting. You could always just change the bulb to something else.
