free fish from walmart :)

I retract my comment back a few pages. It was uncalled for and I apologize. Really!
I was having a bad day, stress from a recent death in the immediate family all compiled and I lashed out.
I hope my comment can be accepted, livebearerfreak. Eventhough your rescue was risky, I commend you for trying it out. Best of luck with your remaining rescue!

Livebearer literally rescued some fish and he gets a bunch of negative comments! There is nothing wrong with trying to help an animal that can't help itself.

Good job and good luck! I am glad someone tried to help Walmart fish...

yeah agreed, interesting experimenting regardless. and I agree with the treatment approach to limit use of antibiotics and just provide a good water balance and environment for the fishes. Of course antibiotics work but for what reason would you use them? Presumably the fish just had ich, and I don't see any reason to liberally use antibiotics on fish with little chance to survive anyway. And there is no need to sterilize after drying out; sure some bacteria may survive but unless your fish is immunocompromised it won't do anything.

Now of course if it was your 20 year old goldfish with a suspected bacterial infection, then pour in all the tetracycline you want. But I think people have to learn how to responsibly use antibiotics as well, and that the maintenance of the fish's health is of paramount importance.

please keep us updated and I hope you are successful!

Kudos!!! Hope they make a full recovery and stay healthy. Good bit of info as well. Good luck

Well... I think what you're doing is well-intentioned and so I wish you the best of luck. :) You're at least trying way more than Walmart would have! I've found that many illnesses will clear up once the fish is in clean water so medication isn't always necessary, although I've had instances where it saved lives.

I only ventured into Walmart's fish section once and all I saw were a bunch of ill featherfins feasting on dead fish. I felt like bagging them up myself and leaving since nobody works back there. It was a really sad sight. If I had got the offer of taking them for free I would've.

I was just verifying the facts...
