So, I go off to pick up my son's best friend this morning, and their neighbor is having a garage sale. No biggie. I am pretty good about not bringing home someone elses junk anymore. Then I see it. Pond fish. And the lady tells me I can HAVE them, she is moving and they have to go. Would I like to see them? And I am dragged, helpless, kicking and screaming to the backyard to see the fish.
She says they are all commons with some from several generations. Right off I see a stunning "native' colored one, all dirty gold and black. And then a sarassa in bloodred and white, with red lips. And then a BIG one with a black head speckling into a red body...and then...a couple of KOI cruise up. One bright yellow, one all black, and the big red and black one, which when it got closer I saw had the whiskers (barbels?) that koi have. I think I drooled on myself. She says, yea, maybe the ex put some koi in there, too.
I wanted them so bad I had to fight not to buy one of her pots and pans and scoop them up right then and there.....
My hospital tank is still set up and running, since I just put my own fish back in the pond last night...I could bring a few home and quarantine them right there for a few weeks...they are so pretty...
NO
NO
NO
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They could well have some kind of funk...
They are quite a bit bigger than my fish and it wouldn't be fair to the originals....
My pond is way understocked and I want to keep it that way...
AND...I already have fish fry lurking in the water hyacinths to add to the stocking ....
AND... I really want them, and they are so beautiful. And I can't have them. And the kids are already saying how they miss having Indy and Pearl in the house. And I can't have an indoor tank either.
Sigh
