It blocks out some light yes, I would not suggest introducing it in a tank with plants below that need higher light. I have Java fern/moss, Sunset Hygro and L. Sessliflora growing beneath and it all grows fine.

I really need some rooted plants so I can fill my tank in again. if you have late some you want to bless me with I will find more stuff to give free to !
