I turned on my lights this morning and saw the tank was full of small twitching white worms between about 2 and 5mm long. I don’t know what they are but I think it could be threadworm. I’m sure they have come from a lump in the Oscars tail which I noticed about a week ago. It was just a lump under the skin but now looks like it has an exit point. I also have a large severum and two large plecs in the same tank. Can someone please give me some good adivce about what I can do to sort out identifying and killing these worms without harming the fish.
Thanks for any replies.

There are parasitic nematodes of fish, but they are in the intestinal tract. Free-living nematodes in the water like these have come from the filter more likely. They're harmless. Smaller fish would eat them. They're beneath your Oscar's notice: too small even for a snack.

From your description they sound to be exactly what Wetman has said. I had them too when my tank first got established. Disappeared soon after adding my fish and havn't been seen since.

Thanks very much for your replies. Just a bit more information for you just to be sure. Any that are on the bog wood are moving about almost the same as a caterpillar does. A few are on the other fish, some look like they are attached and some are just crawling over the fish. There is also this lump on side of the Oscars tail. Can I also check that it isn't something for me to worry about because I have to put my hands in the tank. Are there any good sites that have photos for me to look at.
Thanks for any replies,
Kev

but does anyone know what could be in the Oscars tail then. It is like a lump with 2 white head type marks at the edge of the lump. This is where I thought all the little worms came from.
Thank for any advice,kev
