Freecycle. who uses it?

God you have to love the freecycle. I had to quit mine because all it was anymore was another craigs list.... scams trying to sell their stuff and never following the rules.

I just joined it a couple of weeks ago. That is how I got my 50 gallon. It needed to be cleaned but hey, it was FREE! WOO HOO!

I have gotten a number of tanks for free through freecycle. Some were in decent condition, most needed some cleaning and/or resealing, but whatever, a free tank is a free tank.

And I agree, I'd email the moderation if people are emailing you with cash requests. thats what craigslist is for.

I got my 75 gallon tank via freecycle. Around here you have to act fast.

It was a bit rough with a few chips one of which was in the seam but it's held water for over 6 months or so now and I love it.

Thanks again Freecycle... you rock!

Q

i deleted the post and rewrote it stating no other tank sizes will be taken, just 50 gallons or onw that will fit a stand measuring 48 long x 13 wide. so it should help those people that keep sending me offers about other tanks off my back! that and i said it must be free! even if it leaks i can have it resealed.

Well, you would have been pretty disappointed if I had called you with my 50 gallon then. All my 50 gallon tanks have a 36X18 footprint. The standard tanks with a 48X13 footprint are 33 long, 40 long and 55 gallon.

There may be other manufacturers in other parts of the country but I know that Aqueon (All Glass), Perfecto, and Top Fin all list their standard 48x13 tank as a 55 and not a 50.

oh.....ok, well 55 gallon (lol) :wall::wall::wall:

i signed up for it a while ago and didn't really care for it. i don't need baby clothes, fill dirt, or everything in your basement for free as long as i take all of it.

The point is, you come on here complaining that other people keep bothering you with things you don't want and you don't even know yourself what you want. How mad would have you been if someone had called you and said "I have a 50 gallon tank you can have, all you have to do is come and pick it up" and you drove 20 miles only to find out it was in fact a 50 gallon and what you needed was a 55.

You should have been more specific about the size you needed right from the start.

how do you go about finding one of these legitimate freecycle places?

Jon there are are a few decent groups around here. Go to Yahoo groups' home page and do a search for freecycle and connecticut. I have mine sent to a separate gmail account so they don't clutter up my regular inbox. I'm on about 4 lists I think and I get probably 50-100 emails a day. There are groups for manchester, ledyard, norwich, storrs, central CT, groton...might be more as well. You can search for "freecycle" as well as "freedomcycle". I can tell you from experience that all the groups I am a member of are very well moderated and don't let a lot of crap through that doesn't belong.
