I have a 29 gal that I am thinking about changing over to a salt water tank. Is there a book that people could recommend for someone who knows zilch about salt water? Something of a step by step manual of what to do. I understand cycling and the like but nothing about things like live sand/rock, salinity, inverts, refugiums etc.

The book quoted by Archer is a stunning book...Just to add though, silly as it may sound, all the information you need is right here on AC, and if you dont see it, ask the questions, whatever you need to ask...We have many advanced marine aquarists here on AC who will help you with questions and walk you through setting up a marine system..The key is patience and research...have them two, and you'll do well..

Just my thoughts

I have been wondering for the past 10 years how book and magazine publishers have managed to stay in business. I can understand fictional novels but most anything else you want to know is on the internet.

Could not agree with you more mate...Of course, a lot of books that are published to do with the fishkeeping hobby, are simply the writers "own" opinion as there is / are no set rules or ways to do things, only a common set of idea's..Its something i have come across as i have started to write one myself..Some fishkeeping books i have noticed are set out as though they should be read as novels etc, where as other, like Fenner's, are written in a manner of a browsing type book...and i think that makes all the difference...browsing type books is the way ahead for this hobby..

Just an opinion of course.. :)

To me the best way to get information in the hobby is from a multitude of sources. AC is a great one, so is Fenner's book and his site, etc, etc. Gather as much information as you can so you can make a semi educated guess when it comes to your tank.

If you will allow me, here are the books that I used a few years back aside from several websites.:) Of course, I agree with atnixon and Grins about having as many sources as possible.

I'll have to agree with the above about this website, fenners book and his website.. I also use http://saltaquarium.about.com/ they have proven to have some useful information as well..
