As long as there's food for them to filter out of the water, and you avoid super high temperatures, you should be fine. I think it would be even cooler to keep some of the native mussel species — maybe time to go look for some.
I had some clams and ended up removing them. One died under the substrate and that was enough for me. I caught it before anything spiked, but it took me a day of going through the Flourite to find it. Those things can hide well.
