ok so i recently spent 3 days collecting some type of darter. im not sure the exact species which is why i need the darter experts of the world to step up to the plate and show off your id skills.

these are basically freshwater perch.
i will be selling these son of a guns soon and instead of not having a species name and just calling them darters i would like people to be able to google search the specif species.

any help would be great

Cool! What size tank and temp areyou keeping them? Spent few minutes looking for an old book, "Handbook of Darters" by Lawrence M. Page (published in 83).
Perhaps Eastern Sand Darter, Ammocrypta pellucida from Ohio??? I suspect these should be in cooler water than tropical with high dissoved O2 and faster water movement as well.

You should check local/state/federal laws before selling. I really dont know if these are protected and/or prohibited to sell across state lines.. (I hope not as these and other darters are facinating creatures).

Enjoy and good luck with new venture.

ok well ill look that name up. there really cool fish. very active.

i live in ohio so im pretty sure your books correct :) haha but theres a number of different species. thise stream had these suckers coming out the ying yang. haha but its also 4 hours from my house so i will not be going back.

yeah im going to check the laws.. i might just have to trade/sell them locally. the little research i did said it isnt recomended lol

WOW that book was published in 83. thats great. hmm i might have to look into buying a copy of that. im a sucker for a good book.
anyways i have these guys at the temp of my basement floor (65-70) and are in a mix of 2 gallons of there stream water witht the rest being ro water. there eating frozen bloodworms and froze bring shrimp. no intrest in the green bean though.

i have had only one death in the past month or so since i collected them... considering that was when one of my 3 filters on the tanks went out im not worried at all

ok... haha i was thinking the dots on the side looked like mine. then again the pic was after i took them from a tank and put them in a small container so really the black is more defined. i was just reading state laws and it looks like i may need some type of 50.00 anual renual sale/buy registration.

not worth it for what im doing
