Freshwater fish are ugly.

Oh, what a lovely oyster toad that is ! I love the frog fish they are so neat! They have fish in fresh water to

Wow, ems and joe! They are so horrid that i'll take them off your hands and hide them from the light of day! Much like my Mamaw's cheese cake it tastes so bad that I usually end up eating all of it to protect the family!
BTW: I asked her if she had ever seen Rift Lake African Cichlids or Rainbowfish.
She said...no.

I wouldn't worry about it. Most people automatically assume my 75g cichlid tank is saltwater because "fish are so pretty and the filter thing is under the tank".
dont you just love it when people make a general statement based on little or no knowledge of what they're talking about?
i wouldnt say that ALL freshwater fish are ugly, there are ugly fish, both saltwater and freshwater. and i do believe that most of the freshwater fish you see in petstores can be boring. like the common orange platys and mollies. i'm always on the lookout for the "rare" varieties of fish. most of our lfs dont carry rams, kribs, shellies, discus, etc.
Rams are beautiful. one of my friends saw my rams in my community tank and said "oh my god those are in the wrong water!"
i said "what are you talking about?"
he said "arent those saltwater?" he pointed at the gold rams.
i said "no, they're freshwater."
he said "those are much too fancy and colorful to be freshwater."
i said "so what are african cichlids then?"
(his dad has a 180 gal african cichlid tank)
i like the guy, but sometimes he can be clueless...
