Freshwater fish are ugly.

I've showed a few people at work a pic of my tank and they've all thought it was saltwater because none of them have seen a heavily planted tank before.

As for fish colors, I tend to go for personality as well as appearance. My peppered corys are hardly the most striking colored fish but they have an amazing personality.

i agree with that, one of my other favorite fish in my tank is my common pleco. he has a personality. everyday he comes out of his hiding place and waits patiently in the front of the tank to see if i have the bag of algae wafers. if i do he starts to swim around in circles, like a puppy begging for a treat.
they're not that pretty either, but they're cool little fish.

This picture was taken at a fish store. It was so horrid looking, it wasn't there the next time I went in! :duh:

Oh, what a lovely oyster toad that is ! I love the frog fish they are so neat! They have fish in fresh water to ;)?
 Max, your family is so lucky to have you there

dont you just love it when people make a general statement based on little or no knowledge of what they're talking about?

You mean the democrats?

I also love the way people kinda huff when you tell them you keep native fish (to your own area, I live in SC). Then I show them sailfin mollies and bluefin killies. They say stuff like "oh they aren't as nice" or "oh they're fantastic fish if you don't mind drab colors" as if color is what it's all about. Bluefins are my favorite, very docile and fairly hardy.

This is a bluefin killie (not my pic) from

They must be color blind...nothing drab about that fish at all. Beautiful.

IMO Discus are the type of fish that look like they should be in saltwater, thats how good they look. to bad they are the same price as some saltwater fish :P
