Can i use sand from the beach on Lake Michigan? It is a freshwater lake and im not sure what kind of sand it is. Is this a good idea or no? Should i just go to Home Depot and get the aragonite sand or what?

I would just buy the sand. It's unlikely that the sand on Lake Michigan will help with the buffering at all, but even if it does, it is highly likely that you'll be importing a number of pollutants and toxins as well. Way not worth the risk, especially when aragonite landscaping sand is about $3/50 pounds.
