Freshwater Puffer Fish ?????

I kept one forever in a 2.5 gal hex by himself (for a small fish they can be real bullies). It was a great desktop aquarium. I don't know any other single fish that could pull off making a tank interesting all by itself.

ps I've heard they are indestructible (mine was)

Once established, they are fairly tough, but they often will not take any prepared or frozen foods as juveniles. It's important to have a live food source--snails, live brine, live bloodworms--on hand when first purchased, and then wean them onto prepared foods.

I agree with DD, ltldrgon--the sharks are eventually going to fight. Most will get along as juveniles, but adults are very territorial and 72 is not big enough for the numbers you have. I would remove all but one. Even the algae eater will be attacked by the sharks, due to similar body shape. I originally had my rainbow shark in with my puffers. He was moved after about 8 months--the puffers started shredding his fins. Monitor the tank very closely, and be ready to remove fish.

So far all the sharks get along great.. the two Redtail are always together.... and at one point it looked like were trying to mate....

As for the Rainbow it has its little cave and doesn't really bother anyone. He comes out when it sees me or at feeding time, but otherwise hangs out in there.

The chinese guy.. it is a whole other story.. it is older so doesn't eat algea anymore and can get a little moody if someone else comes into it's claimed cave.. but I am thinking about moving it into another tank.

But we do keep a very close eye on the tank.. I do a fish count 2 times a day... water testing every weekend, etc. These tanks are my babies.. lol

oh ya the bala sharks and the cat-fish are moving to their new home (a friends 500gal) in about 2 weeks to a month.

this may be so but as these fish all mature, the dynamics in the tank will turn to be completely different as far as those sharks.

Agreed and we do have an extra 50gal, 20gal, a couple of 10 gal and few 5gal tanks in the garage so as time goes on and we see issues we have a few options to moving them or in an ER we can set-up a temp home.
