i am planning on putting a male and one or two female Potamotrygon reticulatus in a 150. fluval FX5, 303, 404 and maybe another 404 or a 405. estes' white marine sand (not much at all), pile of driftwood at one end for a pair of albino Polypterus senegalus to play in, no other tankmates, frozen foods, hikari sinking carnivore pellets, new life spectrum, 50% water changes weekly (im on well water that comes in at 6.6 and soft), 6' double bright lighting, i think thats it for the plan. any suggestions?

Stock up on black worms. It's tough to get retics to eat other foods while they're pups.

They'll almost definately eat blackworms though:)

i plan on getting ones that are already eating frozen, so they should never need to get anything live from me.

If you can find some rays that have been bred in captivity they're hardier and accept "dead" food easier. Any wild caught ray will need to be weined off of live food, unless the people that get it before you do the work. A lot of them will eat bloodworms, but if that's the case it's best to keep feeding black worms, as it will help them put on weight. The ultimate goal is to get them to eat shrimp IMO:)

the shop my cousin works at just got one and it is already taking frozen bloodworms. i plan to use a feeding bowl like i have in with my discus. once they relate me putting things in it to those things being food, it should go even faster for them to take more prepared foods. most likely i wont find CB, so ill have to do my best with WC, and i defnitely plan on making sure that wherever i get them from they are already eating frozen.

I had one that would only eat bloodworms at it wouldnt put on any weight at all.
If you can see its hip bones, break down and get some black worms to keep it fat.

i never said i would starve it, just that i dont plan on getting them until i know theyre on frozen. ive read barron's book on freshwater rays so i know how to watch for weightloss (among other health issues). thanks though. do you mean table shrimp? so just peel and thaw frozen human grade shrimp and then cut it down to ray sized portions would be the best food item to get them on?

That is the easiest way to feed the rays, if you get them to accept it. You should join monsterfishkeepers.com They have a forum specifically for freshwater stingrays. There's lots of info and good advice from people with years of experience with rays.
