i was just wondering if there is such a thing.and not that loach thing either. a real sting ray. if so i would appreciate a pic. thanx

There is such a thing. There are a lot of species. Leopaldi and Motoro stick out in my mind.

I was interested in getting one, but I live in Florida where you have to hold a special permit to own one. I didn't think it was worth the hassle when I can just wait to get my saltwater ray later down the road.

More Freshwater Stingrays

There should be plenty of photos to look through on those sites! I had more bookmarked, but that's all I can find right now. They're incredibly interesting and neat to learn about, but they aren't a pet for everyone.

I'm having a custom tank built for my new home. It is going to be a 4' square tank that is going to be placed in the middle of a custom breakfast bar/island. I'm working on the details...it was originally planned for a FW ray, but now I'm opting for a SW. This will be months down the road though, but it's always fun to research and plan! :)

Not exactly illegal...I mean you can acquire a permit after hours of paperwork, hundreds of dollars and dozens of unreturned phone calls.

Personally, it just isn't worth the hassle.

I heard it was completely illegal in California...

Plus they're pretty expensive to boot. Like, $100 - $1500 on River Wonders. Just using that site as a reference. I do not encourage using them as I have heard several reports of them ripping people off. Plus, Rays get very big, 12" in diamater for the smaller species. They need large tanks with large, broad bottoms for swimming room.

Sorry

Sorry for interrupting the thread, just making sure my avatar works. Thx for the patience.

Heard FW rays require very clean water. Parameters have to be just right. As for riverwonder, I was thinking of ordering from them. How are they ripping people off?

You can find several species of freshwater rays in Chicago for around $80
