freshwater stingray?

People over at PlecoFanatics have had problems. One guy ordered 7 Zebras for about $160 a piece. All were 2"s, not 4"s, as advertised, and 3 arrived dead, the other 4 died the next day in his tank. This is an experienced Pleco keeper we're talking about. RiverWonders would not replace the ones that died in his tank and did not believe him about DOAs. Eventually, after weeks of no returned phone calls, and trying to find legal ways to deal with Riverwonders, he ended up having to pay for 7 more at a "discounted" price, of $79 just to get his plecos.

Now, I don't know his whole ordeal as this is a 2nd hand story. I just know his posts went on for weeks at PlecoFanatics and that he's not the only one thats had problems with them.

I didn't know you could get FW stingrays via permits. My dreams of one day owning one were crushed when I learned that rays were illegal in FL. Since I have a big tank and love rays it seemed an injustice, but so is life. I've heard it's a super hassel to get any permit from the govt and people who breed in FL jump through major hoops to just be able to breed and sell them. But after the pirranha scare of the 80's who can blame FL for being a little paranoid.

Heard FW rays require very clean water. Parameters have to be just right

THey do not tolerate change very well and are very sensitive to nitrates let alone nitrites and ammonia.
They are expensive to feed and some species will kill other fish. Also, they have a high mortality rate compared to other fish during the first few months.

I'm in Gainesville, Florida and a local lfs has some freshwater rays for sale. I can't remember the price and didn't notice any sort of restriction into purchasing it. But then again they may just have the paperwork in the back.

BTW, please notice that River Wonders charges you for multiple items... For example, they charge $600-$700 for 9 stingrays, so under $100 each...
