i bought a toadfish/freshwater lion from the lfs this weekend. I know that hes gonna eat anything smaller i put in with it, but i wonder since its a brackish water fish if a puffer would be ok in its tank? anybody have any ideas?
right now its in a 15 gallon tank but i have a 55 to set up once i get all unpacked from moving. i thought about a scat or mono or something like that too
The toadfish will eat anything it can fit into it's very LARGE mouth. That would include a poisonous F8 puffer. A scat might work but then those 2 inhabitants would be tops, in a 55g, as both produce a lot of waste. Monos are schooling species.
i added a mediuum sized green spot puffer today, and ill keep an eye on things to see how it goes. are there any top water fish that are brackish? like how a butterfly only occupies the top of the tank? that way the chances of the frogfish eating it are very small
Please bring back the puffer. The toadfish has poisonous spines & no doubt, the puffer will nip at them. Also, a 15g isn't large enough for a med-sized puffer alone. You have grossly overstocked this tank with 2 fish with very large appetites & extremely high bioloads. Please wait until you upgrade before you consider adding any fish with the one you have.
