Anyone built their own UV Sterilizer? My company has a bunch of UV bulbs from our decommisioned Biosafety hoods. I was thinking of trying to make my own sterilizer.

Do they even do anything for freshwater?

thanks in advance,
TS

Never done it but where there's a will there IS a way! You just have to use UV resistant material and find a way to power it w/o it leaking at the same time. With enough power, it's suppose to be able to kill ich tomites along with malevelant bacteria too. Oh, and good bacteria.

would UV be able to travel through a clear plastic tube.

I was thinking about getting an outer tube like a wide diameter PVC pipe or make a box and then put in a florecent light fixture (with an on off switch) for the bulb then through the middle of the box I would run a clear plastic tube (that I would actually make be the input for my canister filter).
