Hi, I'm Cadence and the proud mommy of 2 Neon Cichlids a Convict and a four year old human boy (whom I love very much).
I used to breed guppies as a hobby, but I recently underwent a move that would have killed them if I took them with me, so I left them, the tank, and about half my supplies with my brother and decided I'd start over once I got to PA.
I bought a small 10 gallon to start off with since my current location is not permanent(sigh) and set it up. I went to PetCo(I know, I know) to buy some guppies, but me being picky about my guppies, didn't like a single one.
My son saw the Cichlids and I fell in love with this beautiful blue neon. I knew they were killers..and they get a hell of a lot bigger than guppies do, but I figured, ok, I'll give it a shot and when I move into more space, I'll hook them up with a big home. I grabbed the blue one, a yellow one, and snagged a cute convict from next door.
I almost lost the blue one to shock (i raised the PH about half an hour before putting them in, but I guess it wasn't enough) but I managed to nurse him back to health.
So, here I am, with a fish completely foreign to me, armed only with the experience as a guppie breeder, and working in the fish department at a walmart when I was a teenager.
So far I've got it covered, but as I make their tank more like home, I may need some pointers. Looking foreward to hearing from everyone!
