Frozen Brine Shrimp with or without spirulina?

I have been feeding frozen brine shrimp every other day or so and I had been giving them the SF bay frozen shrimp. However I have been feeding them a different brand that has spirulina in it (wierd green cubes). The nutrients seem to be much higher with much less water. Any opinions on spirulina and it's actual health benefits or lack thereof?

Thanks!

Brine shrimp are a treat. They do not make a good steady diet for most fish. The spirulina is good for fish that need higher vegetable content in their diets. A good flake food or something like cichlid pellets will be a better balanced food for regular feeding. No matter how much your fish enjoy the treats, I would limit each type of treat to once or twice a week.

Would bloodworms be a better substitute? What would be recommended? I feed flake food in between but wanted to give them something different.

your angels and rams will love it..but be careful. protein can have detrmental effect when some fish get too much of it.

Ditto.

It's why you see some people warn against feeding bloodworms to purely herbivorous fish. They get too much of the food containing lots of proteins and eventually suffer digestive upsets which may or may not kill the fish.

i read somewhere that brine also contain iodine so i don't feed it very often
I'm sorry but I don't see any reason to worry about iodine concentration. Furthermore, the lack of iodine itself can cause goiter among fish. Iodized table salt are also fine for use. I don't see why people fear the use of it either.

Here's the chart provided by Beblondie.:)
