Frozen Food OK?

Murphster--those are good live foods! Just make sure no pesticides are used in the area you collect them from, and give them a good 'last meal' to increase their nutritional value. I buy bait worms for several of my critters--they all love them.

labont865--please provide a reference for saying the comets meet the oscars nutritional needs. Every single thing I have read indicates this is not the case, and that comets impair the predators ability to use Vitamin B, resulting in a variety of problems.

My source is personal experience and reading I have done about Oscars in the wild. I am not saying that you should only feed them feeders, and am not neccessarily saying comets are the best, but you have use what you can get. I personally feed my fish guppies. However nearly every Oscar I have ever owned has eaten Comets and Guppies with some Tetra doromin pellets to make up for missed vitamins and minerals. I had a pair of Oscars that lived in a 70 gal. custom tank for about 10 years and their diet mainly consisted of feeder guppies. However, I did raise my own feeders in a seperate tank which I would also recommend. Again it basically comes down to personal choice I know numerous people that have fed their Oscars in the same fasion and none of them have ever had any problem besides growing to big for their tank and being an extremely messy fish. Remeber that they will need pellet supliments still because though they are mainly carnivorous they do need plant supliment as-well which is where cichlid pellets come in. Again you will get hundreds of different opinions which one you choose is up to you.
