Fry Care

My female ice blue zebra cichlid has been holding for about 3 weeks now. i can see the fry moving around in her mouth and I know she's going to spit them soon. This is my first breeding experience so I thought I might try my hand at taking care of them. Before I rip everything out of my tank to catch her what are some things I should know. What will they eat? I read somewhere that I can crush spirulina flakes for them. Will they eat one algae? I am going to be out of town for Christmas will they nibble on a vacation feeder? If it's not doable than I'll just let her spit them in the main tank. I'd really like to have a go at it though

brine shrimp with no shells. my babies go nuts for it and its very tiny for them.

We have fry at the moment, i just crush up a few different kinds of flake food, { Same Brand } to almost a powder, and there growing fast.....

for my fry I finely crush regular food as ell as keep some Hikari First Bites on hand. I have good luck doing this. I feed them at least 6 times a day.

I picked up some Hikari First Bites and moved mom to a separate tank. Once she spits the babies I'll remove her. the tank is a 5 gallon planted tank that has been set up and stable for a while. I don't think she has many babies so I think the 5 gallon will work for a while. I picked up an auto feeder as well that will feed them twice a day while I'm gone. I'm really excited

I don't feed my mouthbrooder fry. They get spit in the tank and eat the algae growing on rocks and wood. When I know there is small fry I also try to feed the tank seaweed. The larger fish will rip it apart and the fry get left overs. In a 5g tank, twice a day autofeeder should be fine, then when you're back if your tank isn't cannibals, you could throw them in there and forget about any special care.

I have cannibals in my tank. Almost 4 weeks ago, I could save only 2 acei fry that I'm raising right now. So, I think it is a good idea to have mom in a 5gal tank and raise the fry there for a while.
