This crayfish has been housed in a community setting. That being said, if a fish is slow or sick, crayfish are opportunistic hunters and they will eat fish. They mostly scavenge though. They are a cold freshwater creature, meaning a heater is not necessary providing the temperature in the room is between 65 - 70 F, but can tolerate a slightly warmer temp. I would not put it in a tank that required an 80 F temp though. They do require a filter and water changes as well as an aerator or good oxygen in the water. They eat what ever is left from feeding the fish in the tank if they are housed with them. They eat just about anything that lands on the bottom of the tank. You can not house them with snails except MTS as they are quite adept at removing the snail from the shell or breaking the shell itself. They normally live 4 - 5 years, or so I have read.

This particular one almost caught a zebra danio....it caught it but didn't have a very good grip and the danio has lived to tell the tale.
