No room, no time!
It is a 4 foot tank, I do not have 4' of wall left that can have a fish tank. The tank is in the room outside attached to the garage, you'd think it an ideal fish room, but there is no air conditioning, no heat, no insulation, no water, no drain, and only one power outlet. Windows on 3 sides for lots of sun and lots of heat in summer and cold in winter.
I thought I'd either grow plants for sale or raise baby discus in the summer time.
I put a test 10 gallon out there with a few plants in the sun where they ought to get enough light -- it filled with mosquitos. I added a female betta -- it ate all the mosquitos but died of the heat from the sun. The humidity in the room went so high I feared the walls would get moldy.
In the house, I still have 22 discus in two big tanks: the 105 and the 58, plus two planted fish tanks: a 59 and a 29, plus a 55 g cichlid tank and a Q tank. The water changes on the two discus tanks and trying to remember to fertilize the plants are enough, for every tank is in a different room of the house, all on carpet. And every tank has two filters or maybe 3.
In addition, I still have a few tanks in the attic, a 20 long and a few 10s for Q tank or raising stray babies perhaps, but I just cannot handle another big tank.
And I'm finding that the concept of raising baby discus for later sale is not working out, as I intended to get about 20 and sell off half as they grew to end up with one tank of fish to keep. But when I get a prospective buyer, I grill them on whether they will be "good enough" to take care of my dear pets (these babies are so big and beautiful now I can't bear to take them in a bag to auction) and so I simply talk them out it if I think they are not ready for discus. Someone even offered me baby fish, but I can't do it. Just getting water out there is too much difficulty.
I am just stretched to the limit on tanks, putting that one into service will simply break my back. It's the discus, really, those extra water changes and all the filters are adding a lot to the work load.
So, the end result is I have a tank I need to get rid of. A friend has offered to make a stand for it, for that may help sell it if it does not move out soon.
