I thought they were pests! Now I see a thread on java fern 1-6" tall... Hey, not all hope is lost! Whats next, duckweed? (I've thrown out thousands of those)

To all those of you waiting for some lettuce, a little bit of a tease. I grabbed most of the water lettuce about two weeks ago. When i got them they were a bit beat up. The two days in transit were especially cold and they took it hard. I removed a lot of the damaged leaves and trimmed the roots down. I was concerned that they would not do well. It's now two weeks later and they are just taking off! The roots are probably 3-4 inches long, all the damaged leaves are gone, and man are they spreading. These suckers are just awesome. All this in a low light tank. I couldn't be happier. Hang in there. It's worth it.
