Howdy.

I have the following in my 55G:

2 m.auratus cichlids
4 kenyi ciclids
1 albino cichlid (1.5")
1 electric yellow cichlid
1 small pleco

Could I get away with adding a couple more cichlids?

only if you add more decoration in the way of maylasian driftwood(sinks fast) or thin slate(dark brows nice & available) & thicker chunky pieces of regular thickness to stack the slate on .TAKE OUT THAT CORAL you don't have a salt water system. your gravel looks so unnatural ,I don't know what it is with blue gravel ,sheesh.Never have white or light gravel so if those are shells.takem out.I have shells in my tank as bio media but they are below my freshwater sandbed with plants on it.(its a swamp)but b4 then I had shells in a diy filter.if the shells were a deep chocolate brown like some snails it be cool. I have some zebra snail shells that are tan & brown but they are old empty freshwater shells ,some small fish digem& I believe shells give some anearobic benefit in the tip of the cone its uncirculated if you dig.If you had enough hideing places one of your pairs ma breed ,dispite the competition. ok your background is wet ,either squeegie it on or take the whole thing off :) thankyou ,come again p.s. the slate can be stacked more than 1 tear if it feels stable make an apartment building for them on 1 side & driftwood on the other or just jumble it up somehow it will be smoken'

Well, I love my tank as is setup wise. Any rec's on the fish question? ;)

As long as the corral is fake, leave it if you like it. And I may not like pink gravel but the next guy/gal might. It's to each his/her own. As for your fish, telecubby had the right idea in saying you need more hiding places. While you do have some nice larger pieces, thery offer little in the way of a refuge from agression. Clay pots are a cheap way of doing it, or if you have the cash, go for something a bit nicer. I personally would call your tank fine as it is, but if you want to do more go for it. I'd only go one, mabey 2 maro max(I am assuming with all malawis now you will only get more malawis). As your fish grow watch for increased sighns of aggression, or overcrowding. If it seems to be getting a bit cramped, sell/trade a few out or get another tank(I love new tanks). WHat kind of pleco do you have? If it's a common, that would be a concern. I'm sure you know about them being on this forum. Go get a smaller variety if that is the case, bristlenose, golden nuget, etc.
