fun bottum feeders

there is a thread about flying foxes http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86782&highlight=flying+fox

They seem to get kinda aggressive. They also get to about 6 inches, so a bit too large for a 29, IMO. (Unfortunately, I think I stunted my dojo loaches :( as their max size in aquaria is 8 inches. Mine seem to have maxed out at 4 in)

daniel, I think every other thread on AC features fish stories! Otherwise that thread would get tooooo long :D

spotted rapheal , hide most of the time but when they come out there enjoyable and get really attractive

I think raphaels also get a bit large for a 29. Their max size is about 6-8 inches. They're really neat, though, and talk!

raphaels get to be 10" long (I think). I don't think you could do one in a 29G.

what about some fish that will add some color to the tank? I've seen some pretty loaches before.

khuliis i'll fit that bill nicely, so would zebras. some of the smaller, more attractive plecos like clowns (need driftwood, though).

that's funny you should mention that! My two upside-down cats (also in a 29 gal) used to be best friends. I got them to keep each other company when they were little. They ALWAYS hung out, constantly touching each other with their whiskers and sharing the same cave. Then, suddenly when they grew up, they "broke up" and the girl got evicted. They now live in separate caves :D

Jenny, you could try some kuhli loaches as fishcatch said. They stay small and are really neat. Tehy do better in groups of 3 or more. That or other smaller loaches would be great.

My own community tank is a bit "bottom-heavy" as I have a love affair with bottom feeders :D In my 29, I've got two upside-down cats, two dojo loaches, and 4 otos.

Hello,

My Upside-Down Catfish did the same as yours. They were friends, but as they got older they started to fight for ranking. Now the one on the top is a very obeise female, which is named Pizzazy. Then the second ranked one is a fat female named Coconut. Then the smallest of the three is a male named Cookoo, he ranked last. Poor little guy. He gets chased by two big, fat mommas!!!! What I've learned is, the fatter they are,the higher ranked they are!

It's the opposite way in my tank. The male is alpha and he pushes the girl around. I haven't seen any fighting or outright scuffles for dominance, though. He just kicks her out of the prime hiding spot. He IS pretty fat. So I try to put food in the girl's cave to give her a chance. She's now "pleasantly plump", too :)

Sorry to divert your thread, jenny. In general, I think bottom feeders tend to be drag in color. It's probably because of the nature of their "occupation". They primarily use smell to ifnd their food, so they're not very visual. They also tend to be nocturnal, hence there's no need for bright colors.

Thanks Fooey! Always glad to share a smile :)
I think those two had a domestic dispute. The boy got too big (musta been working out! :D ) and kicked the girl out. Oh, well. I take good care of her :)
